  • There is no required course work, however, research methodologies are taught at our bi-annual Research Symposia and are available online. Perfect for busy professionals around the world as you only need to visit BSL once per year.

Flexibility to choose your own thesis topic

  • You are free to choose a topic that fits into our research domains. We recommend that you draw your topic from your current work and experiences to build on your already existing expertise.
  • Our interest is in future-oriented, interdisciplinary research and includes new research methodologies that are relevant in solving emerging challenges in the world (example: action research).

  • Designed for mature professionals with the ability to learn independently.
  • The age range of our DBA candidates is 42 – 61 years old.
  • Perfect for busy professionals around the world.

Profile of participants

Our current group of DBA participants is made up of 10% female, 90% male, coming from 10 different countries. The average amount of work experience 25 years.


Program objectives
  • Become an expert in the field you currently work in or wish to work in the future.
  • Open up new career opportunities, either in consulting, management or education.
  • Acquire new research methodologies to resolve business or societal issues.
  • Create a global network of like-minded people.

The DBA program is designed to be completed in 3 years with only 4 visits to BSL in Switzerland during this time.

Before you begin your research, you can realistically expect a 4-month preparation phase. This includes the completion of the application and selection process for the DBA program and the approval of your thesis outline.

At the end of your 3rd year of research, you are expected to submit your final thesis. It will then take up to 6 months to finalize publishing and thesis defense arrangements.

The thesis may be completed in a maximum of 6 years.

Fees

The DBA program includes the following costs:

  • Year 0 CHF 4'800.- (admission process)
  • Year 1 CHF 18'000.-
  • Year 2 CHF 10'000.-
  • Year 3 CHF 10'000.-

Each additional year will be charged a set fee of CHF 10'000.- The thesis must be completed in a maximum of 6 years.

Statistics for the last 5 years show that more than 90% of DBA participants found employment within three months of graduating from BSL. Completing a DBA thesis confirms you as an expert in your chosen field, allowing you to become consultants or opening doors into the academic world.

DBA participants benefit from the school’s close proximity to many international organizations and large corporations. BSL’s well-established reputation in the business community, combined with the global alumni network, gives BSL graduates a competitive advantage in the job market.
