St. George's School in Switzerland - History and mission
St. George Boarding School spirit is a simple phrase, but loaded with big meanings. When we say, "We are St. George teachers, parents or students," we first mean that we are people with the task to make a positive difference in the academic world. And all of us - students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and friends - embrace this Switzerland boarding school mission. Thanks to our historic background and the values established in 1927, our graduates are prepared for leadership: academically wise, emotionally, physically, ethically, and competitively.
In the year of 1920, two graduates of Oxford University in the UK – L. Southwell and O. Potts – founded St. George Switzerland Boarding School. Horrors of the First World War as well as the difficulties in growing up and teaching the children who have experienced the war, have inflamed the idea of establishing this boarding school in Switzerland. The founders placed three goals for the School: 1. Academic excellence; 2. Globalization; 3. Promotion of peace in the world.
We have found that international students are interested in our boarding school because of our strong academic programs, pastoral guidance, and diverse supplementary activities and a nurturing residential Swiss atmosphere.
Founded as boarding school with originality, we uphold traditional values which aim to:
- provide caring and supporting studying environment
- respect the uniqueness and talent of each student
- challenge for higher goals
- build up physically, socially and emotionally strong personalities
- Foster intellectual growth and desire to learn more
- emphasize the boarding school student’s confidence
- endorse cultural and multilinguistic awareness
